Nolan's Second Cast

So Nolan decided we needed a little chaos the second day into the school year. While we were at Cody's soccer practice Nolan was playing at the park. On my way back to get him to go home he had just fallen off the zipper and landed on his arm. He was crying and said it hurt. I moved his arm, wrist and fingers around and nothing seemed out of the norm. There was no swelling so I told him, "Everything is fine. You're going to be alright." But when we headed into town he was still crying. He typically wouldn't still be crying by then so I called Nate and he said I should take him to the Urgent Care. Nate met us there and low and behold he had fractured his wrist. He had to wear a splint and was not happy about it. A week after this happened I took him to the orthopedic surgeon. They took his splint off and Nolan said it was just fine. He was moving it around and thought he wouldn't need a cast. Well, when the doctor came in he put some pressure on his wrist and asked him if it hurt. Nolan told him no and then he put some more pressure in another spot, still no pain and then he put pressure on the fracture and Nolan busted into tears. The doctor said he was sorry but he knew it was fractured and he had to show him. He was going to need a cast. I could see how tough and brave Nolan was trying to be so that he wouldn't need that cast. Once he broke his barrier he was so upset with himself. He thought if he could pretend it didn't hurt he could sneak his way out of that cast. Poor kiddo, I felt so bad for him. He tried so hard. Now if he could only try that hard at other things : ) He will only have this on for a couple of weeks, so not too big of a deal......it's just the hand he writes with!
